The Patchwork Girl of Oz
by L. Frank Baum
Forced out of the dark forest, Unk Nunki and Ojo Unhappy summon the Crooked Wizard, who introduces them to his latest creation: a living girl made of patchwork blankets and cotton padding. But when the accident leaves a motionless statue on the unk donkey's lover, it is Ojo who must save him. In search of magical materials to bring her uncle back to life, Ojo is joined by a Patchwork girl and an arrogant Glass Cat who boast of a hard ruby heart, a resourceful Furry Husband, and a beautiful block-headed Vuzhi, whose tail feathers are just one of the things Ojo needs to save Une Nunki. While traveling to the Emerald City, the home of the wise and mighty Ozma, they meet Dorothy, a kind and intelligent girl from Kansas; bold Scarecrow; and, of course, Toto. But no one is more loyal than the spiritual Patchwork Girl, who, despite being brought to life as a maid, is determined to see the vast world for herself.
