The People of the River
by Edgar Wallace
The second part of the fascinating exploits of Commissioner Sanders, Britain's man in colonial Africa, should have known better than Commissioner Sanders went on vacation. Just a few days away from their offices in British West Africa, he receives news from the second-team player that the problem that has always been in full swing at this forest outpost is about to boil. He hurriedly returns home, arriving just in time for a meeting of the chiefs of his lands, who are misled by an ambitious agitator named Bosambo and think that the sanding machines are dead. Sanders' return is preventing the rebellion, but Bosambo's seizure of power is far from over. To prevent the province from breaking out in an all-out tribal war, Sanders must brilliantly defeat the brightest leader in Africa. In these stormy roaring adventures, the heroic commissioner battles the whims of malaria, ju-ju and government officials safely entrenched in their London offices. "People of the River" is both a good-natured, exciting excursion and a fascinating historical document.
