The Railway Children
by Edith Nesbit
Roberta, Peter, and Phyllis were very happy, living in a cozy house surrounded by a cook, maid, and two loving parents, until one evening they knocked on the door and their father was mysteriously taken away by two men. Suddenly, a mother moves the family to a small cottage in the countryside. There, children embark on a series of exciting adventures, from rescuing a train full of passengers from a landslide, to rescuing a baby from a fire, to helping a penniless Russian exile, to finally solving the mystery of the father's disappearance.
