The Red Room
by H. G. Wells
The unsung hero decides to spend the night in Lorraine's remote castle, in a room where they are said to be persecuted; he is trying to debunk the various myths surrounding him. Despite the ominous warnings of the three crippled guards who live there, he climbs the "Red Room" to begin his night watch. When in the room, he is embraced with an inexplicable sense of fear. When she tries to cope with her fear, a series of events (which basically involve a few candles that come out inexplicably) lead her to downright panic, afraid that she will not be able to pass all night. He begins to tremble over the perceived ghosts until he hits his head and falls unconscious.
