The Return of Sherlock Holmes
by Arthur Conan Doyle
When Sherlock Holmes met his death in The Adventure of the Last Question, published in 1893, the pain of a reading public was undoubtedly deep. Over the years, fans showed no signs of letting Sherlock Homes lie down and die. Eventually, he saw fit to pursue Doyle Holmes' canon and wrote a series of 13 short stories, The Return of Sherlock Holmes, published in 1905. The series inevitably begins with a shocking reappearance of the master detective from The Adventure of an Empty House.
