The Shadow Over Innsmouth
by H. P. Lovecraft
Rumors are rife with ominous events in the ancient Massachusetts harbor of Innsmouth. The city, which once flourished and fell into a state of decline, is a stopover for Robert Olmsted, a young historian on his tour of the region. Although Olmstead has heard ominous stories about the city and its grotesque inhabitants, he feels compelled to explore Innsmouth. With the exception of a few hospitable locals with strange, unshakable eyes, he finds an almost deserted place - the so-called Innsmouth gaze. He meets the drunken Zadok Allen, who tells him the terrifying story of the city about the devil's reef and mutant hominids, sea gods, gold and human sacrifices. The crazy attacks of a madman? When night arrives in Innsmouth, Olmsted soon finds a reason for surprise. The shadow over Innsmouth is an integral part of what is known as the Cthulhu H.P. Lovecraft Myths.
