The Special Correspondent
by Jules Verne
Claudius Bombarnak is a correspondent appointed by the twentieth century to cover the travels of the Great Trans-Asian Railway, which operates between the Long-Island, Turkestan and Beijing, China. Accompanying him on this journey is an interesting collection of characters, including one who is trying to break the world record and another who is a columnist. Claudius hopes that one of them will become the hero of his work, so his story will not just be a boring traveler. He is not disappointed when a special troop guard wagon is added to the train, which is said to carry the remains of a large mandarin. It turns out that the Great Mandarin is actually a big party returning to China from Iran. Unfortunately, the train has to pass through a large part of China, which is controlled by unscrupulous robbers-chiefs. Before the journey ends, Claudius finds his hero.
