The Spiral Staircase
by Ethel Lina White
When Professor Sebastian Warren bangs on the shutters and locks all the doors of his isolated cottage, the eight residents begin to feel safe. Somewhere outside, the murderer of young girls hides, the last ear is removed. Is there really safety in the numbers, and what happens when their numbers start to go down? The novel was adapted into a radio production starring Helen Hayes, and in 1946 director Robert Siodmak brought it to the big screen called The Spiral Staircase.
