The Story of the Treasure Seekers

by Edith Nesbit

This is a story about the different ways we look for treasure, and I think when you read it, you'll see that we're not too lazy to look at. Often the first of what is often called the " Basttable Saga ", this novel begins the story of these six children - Dora, Oswald, Dicky, Alice, Noel and Horace Octavia Bastabl. When their mother dies and their father's business fails, the children embark on a series of adventures. Oswald (the book's narrator) says at the beginning: "I will tell you this, we must go and look for treasure: this is what you always do to regain the fallen fortunes of your house."
