The Underground City

Jules Verne's Underground City is a novel about the fortune of a mining community called Aberfoyle near Stirling, Scotland. Receiving a letter from an old friend, miner James Starr goes to the Aberfoyle mine. Although believed to have been mined ten years ago, James Starr finds Simon Ford's mine with his family living in the depths of the mine. Simon Ford has found a large line of coal in the mine, but the characters have to deal with mysterious and unexplained events in and around the mine.
