There is an ancient legend about a hero who regains his strength every time he touches the ground and is eventually lifted into the air and overcome by being crushed. No one can say whether Angles risked such a fate by distancing themselves from the primitive virtues that were their lives and power; but when northern blood mixed with English blood during the Danish conquest, the Anglo-Saxon race was said to have touched the world again.
