The Wild Man of the West
by R. M. Ballantyne
As Gibo looked at this scene with a mixed sense of anxiety, anger, and horror, the entire group of Indians suddenly stood up and took their weapons. Almost at the same time, he jumped into a circle of light and put his barrel on the ground. Then, after giving signs of peace, he moved to one of the Indians, who looked like a leader from his clothes and appearance, and gave him a piece of tobacco. The leader quietly accepted the gift.
