The Wreck of the Titan
by Morgan Robertson
This short story was written 14 years before the unfortunate event in 1912, when it was seen as a prediction of the sinking of the Titanic. These striking similarities can be revisited in this new edition. John Rowland, a discredited former Lieutenant in the Royal Navy, chartered a low-deck arm on the titan, the largest ship ever, to sail. One night, in a deep fog, the ship crashes into a giant iceberg and sinks almost instantly. It is equally glorified as prophetic and pure accidental. Of course, the similarity is striking: two unsinkable ships rise in insidious conditions, carrying privileged passengers, with an insufficient number of lifeboats on board.
