Tom Swift and His Electric Rifle
by Victor Appleton
Tom dreams of African safaris while testing his new electric rifle. It works very well and punches a hole in the wall of his neighbor's dining room, causing an angry visit from the toast in question. The quick use of cash confuses feathers, and some unspecified safety features are added to the weapon to prevent the accident from happening again. Luckily, the famous African safari master buys a new big game rifle in the city. It is attached to Tom and the new custom-built airship Black Hawk is designed and built. Tom, Ned, Mr. Damon and the hunter Mr. Durban travel to the Dark Continent by steamship in search of ivory and adventure. Danger is seized upon every turn, and Tom has the opportunity to use his new weapon to kill an incredible variety of monsters that swim, crawl and subdue him. Needless to say, the rifle acts on smaller, but less dangerous creatures, and performs a terrible task when the group is attacked by ferocious tribes. You can probably predict the outcome, but you need to read the story to be sure.
