War is Kind
by Stephen Crane
The battle for goodness was unusual for those times, since it was written in free verse without titles for rhyme, meters, or even individual works. Their length tends to be short, and although a few poems such as "Don't cry, maidenhood, because war is good" use stanzas and avoidances, most don't. Crane also differs from peers and poets of later generations in that his work involves allegory, dialectical, and narrative situations. (source: Wikipedia)
