Waverley
by Walter Scott
Waverly takes place during the Jacobite uprising of 1745, which attempted to restore the Stuart dynasty in the person of Charles Edward Stewart (or "Bonnie Prince Charlie"). It tells the story of Edward Waverly, a young dreamer and English soldier sent to Scotland in 1745. He travels north of Waverley Honor, the aristocratic family home in the south of England (claimed in a report of his English heritage to refer to Waverly Abbey in Surrey), first to the Scottish Plains and the home of a family friend, Baron Bradwardin, then to the highlands and heartland of the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745.
