Where Angels Fear to Tread
by E. M. Forster
When Lydia, an attractive, impulsive English widow, goes on holiday in Italy, she causes a scandal by marrying Gino, an extremely inappropriate Italian who is twelve years younger than her. Primary, snobbish mothers-in-law make no attempt to hide their discontent, and when Lydia's decision eventually leads to disaster, her English relatives embark on an expedition to confront a ruthless stranger. But when confronted with the beauty of Italy and the charm and vibrancy of the stubborn Gino, they are forced to think about their own narrow lives, and their reactions are emotional, stormy and unexpected.
